There was this one stalk of grass pretty much completely covered with tiny jewel-like green beetles shining in the sunlight. And my camera simply refused to focus on them. Manual focus failed to help me this time (i have to admit i'm not very comfortable using it yet). Here is the result.

at work too

Today finally i had a lot of fun with my camera :) It was actually difficult to choose which one of the photos was going to make it to the blog. I'm not sure why i decided for the bee one.

The second day again was not very productive picture-wise but in a different way. This time i took about a hundred photos and deleted almost all of them. With this one i have a strange relationship: i like and dislike it in turns.

time to go

The first day (well, evening) in Darmstadt was not productive picture-wise. I was tired and sleepy and simply not in the mood. Only in the very end (after guinness was almost gone :) things around me started to look attractive enough.

I was biking along the Rhein and stopped to look at (and photograph) two swans hanging out next to a ferry. Well, looks like the second swan didn't make it into the picture!

i went to the zoo in Gelsenkirchen and came out with pretty much a single photo that i like.

today i have a difficult time choosing between two photos. the one above i like for the strange quality of light and the sky that looks surreal to me. the one below i like for all the lines and tiny people. but both pictures leave me somehow unsatisfied.

I think some of the most magical and purest moments are captured by people with very little or no experience at all. There is no such thing as virtuosity in photography, so just go out and be honest. Learning different things about equipment, film, processes and visual principles will only make you a more knowledgeable person, but not a better photographer.

didn't have much time today for pictures.
on the way home i got off the bus a couple of stop earlier and walked to the central station. it was nicely warm and thankfully not raining. but i felt too tired to even look around for real.
still i'm fairly happy with this one.

b&w weather

Today the rain was almost horizontal. Didn't make things any easier.
Anyway, the whole morning i was thinking about the motivation problem. The conclusion seems to be that i need to set myself a project. An idea that i'd try to fit into my photos.
As soon as i decided on the idea, life immediately got simpler :) now i wasn't scanning the world around me in a random fashion, i was looking for particular things.
I wonder for how long it will last though.

red&white

It's definitely difficult to keep the motivation up every day. Even though it was sunday and the weather was nice and warm and sunny, for some reason i just didn't feel like taking my camera and looking for the pictures. In the end of the day i biked to the Post Tower hoping for a good looking sky and interesting reflections. My hopes got thwarted up, the sky was boring (white-blue-black), the tower was.. well, the usual. For the first time i tried to change the lenses while in the process and i think my eyes got confused by that, couldn't see anything worth photographing.
After all i came home with about 40 photos, half of them of the tower, the other half of the strange art objects around it, and three are looking through the glass at the objects inside. This ice-cream cups picture is one of the three.

no new photos today, i spent almost all the time sorting, processing, and uploading the old (well, the last month) ones. still have four different sets to go through, but definitely not today, and probably not tomorrow.
let me show you one of my favorites from the trip to keukenhof then.

The only chance i had today happened to be on my way to a supermarket, so i decided to walk by a playground actually hoping to find some kids on the swing there. 

I'm not particularly happy with this photo (composition/color/and sharpness-wise if you are interested), but i don't have anything better so here it is.

Unexpectedly today turned out to be quite productive picture-wise. After going through the selecting/discarding process, four photos were left for me to choose one from :) i decided for this one probably because the other three are more or less typical for me.

Today's picture is from the uni's cafeteria. I like it but that's probably because i took it :)

Today was raining. Turns out that having no umbrella is a disadvantage. Still, i wanted to have a photo for today, so i skipped the bus home from the central station and walked instead. Was taking pictures of wet flowers and raindrops on the way, but it's kind of difficult to focus while trying to point the camera downwards. Then, right next to my house, i found this bike :) 

First day of work after the holidays. 

Today was even worse than yesterday with regard to my motivation. I put off going for a walk until the evening, hoping for a nice looking sky, and then still i had to drag myself out of the house. Went to the cannons next to the university, got too impatient to wait for the sunset :( decided to walk to the Arithmeum, it manages to look interesting enough usually, took about five photos. Then got cold, started walking in the direction of home rather fast, and only then things started to look good enough for photos. But i couldn't be bothered anymore :(

After an abundance of pretty, colorful, and fascinating subjects the day before, today was rather difficult in terms of finding things to photograph. On the Münsterplatz a craftsmen's market was happening, so i went there in search of something interesting. 

May the first was quite spectacular. I came home with about 240 photos on my memory card and almost a hundred of them survived :) it was really difficult to pick just one for ~365 but i think this one looks different enough from all the rest.

I like the soft color gradient going from the waves in the foreground all the way to the top of the sky. And the emptiness.
